Chilli Con Squirrelly (Squirrelly Cakes)

3 lbs. of lean ground beef
1 1 /2 - 2 pounds of stewing beef, or round steak, cut into small cubes
3 cups of chopped cooking onions
1 1/2 cups of chopped green peppers
2, 19 ounce cans of tomatoes - I like the plum tomatoes
14 ounce can of tomatoe sauce
3 or 4 cans, the 14 ounce size, of dark red kidney beans, drained and rinsed in cold water
1/2 bottle of beer
1 or 2 tbsp. of chilli powder
4 dried chilli peppers, broken in half
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. of fresh parsley, chopped
2 bay leaves


Brown ground beef and stewing beef or steak, drain and add to a large pot or kettle. Fry onions and green pepper in a bit of olive oil and add to the kettle when the oinions are translucent. Dump all of the ingredients into the pot and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Now reduce heat to simmer and simmer for 1 hour stirring from time to time. Serve with warmed rolls and a salad.
